Sometimes it is necessary to add domain names to your web site so that search engines can index it for various phrases or for other reasons. This essentially means that you may have your web site at, say, www.acme.com also be referenced as www.mysite.com.
Configuring new domains to work with your web server is slightly time consuming and there may be a charge associated with each domain you wish to setup, depending on the amount of effort you do yourself.
Terminology (for remaining documentation)
Registry - The official entity or service that allows you to register the domain name(s) you wish to add to your site. Examples are Network Solutions, Register.Com etc...
DNS - Domain Name Server - A service provided by your registry or by Advanced Connections to manage the new domain names
Step 1:
Register your new domain name using your favorite registry. You may also elect to have us register the domain for you at a charge of $45/year.
Step 2a:
If your registry allows you to, point both the main domain (xxx.com) and www.xxx.com to the IP address of your current web server. This is usually 206.152.227.127. If this is confusing or you cannot do this, go on to step 2b below. This allows you to utilize your registery’s DNS service to manage your new domain names.
Step 2b:
If you cannot complete Step 2a for whatever reason, you may use the Advanced Connections DNS servers to manage your domains but it requires additional configuration on the part of Advanced Connections. To follow this route, you must set the Domain Name Server entries in your new domain settings (in your registry’s control panel), to the following:
Name Server 1 (primary)
ns1.adconn.com
206.152.227.46
Name Server 2 (secondary)
ns2.adconn.com
206.152.227.127
Step 3:
