Note: ISP=Internet Server Provider
Before you complete the steps in the Outlook Configuration instructions, you should be aware of an alternative, more efficient method for configuring your outgoing email. In the instructions you will be asked to set your outgoing SMTP server to www.adconn.com. This is fine, however, the path the email takes to get to your recipient will be as follows:
- You compose email and hit SEND
- The email travels through your ISP to the ADCONN email server
- The ADCONN email server then sends the email through its ISP to your recipient.
The alternative is to configure your outgoing email server to be that of your own ISP, this way the path will be:
- You compose email and hit SEND
- The email travels through your ISP to your recipient
To do this, you need to know the mail server name of your ISP’s email server. A few common ones are listed below. If you do not find your email server in the list below, you can contact your ISP directly (call them on the phone), ask for support and say exactly:
“What is the name of your S.M.T.P. server so I can configure my email”
They should respond with something to type in the outgoing server box on the prior steps.
If you decide to do this, do NOT do step 3 in the instructions as it will be unnecessary and will, in fact, preclude your email from working properly (set the port back to 25 if you already did step 3).
